ACCESS FOR DISABLED VISITORS:

On Trains...

The Severn Valley Railway strives very hard to provide access for people of all ages who have a variety of mobility difficulties or other special needs.

For the physically disabled specially adapted vehicles, which allow wheelchair access are available on certain trains. Disabled toilets are also fitted in these vehicles. At all stations, but excluding the halts, ramps are available which connect between the train and the platform. The train crew and station staff will assist with passengers in wheelchairs as required, they are used to doing this.

If your group is likely to contain a large number of physically disabled people, our staff at Bewdley will provide advice regarding the best trains to travel on and the most appropriate stations to embark and disembark.

Please remember that our stations were built in the 1860's and, as such, pose some operational difficulties.

Dining Services...

Because our fleet of historic dining vehicles were built many years ago the width of the doors and gangways does not permit the positioning of a wheelchair at a dining table. Passengers with disabilities are more than welcome to dine on our services and our staff will do their utmost to provide seating which is close to doors and gangways. Folded wheelchairs can be carried on all trains. Please ask at the time of booking.

Stations...

Most of our stations were built in the 1860's and can pose some difficulties for the physically disabled. It is also important to remember that the Railway is extremely busy during certain special events. Ramps are available at every station, except the halts which give access to the trains.

Toilets...

There are toilets at all stations, except the halts. Toilets with full disabled access are available at Kidderminster and Bridgnorth. The toilets at Bewdley have ramped access but are not specifically adapted for wheelchair users. All trains have toilets but these are generally small. Most specially adapted disabled vehicles have 'disabled friendly' toilet facilities.

Publications...

SVR literature is available in large print format from our Bewdley office.
