Vintage Transport Extravaganza

The SVR’s vehicular spectacular bursts into life across a whole weekend, as the Vintage Transport Extravaganza welcomes vehicles from all eras to each station.

What to expect at the Vintage Transport Extravaganza? Ride the rails behind heritage steam and diesel locomotives, and get off at stations along the way to see the finest vintage vehicles on display. If you like classic vehicles, then the Severn Valley Railway is the place to visit this August. Vintage vehicles will be on display at Bewdley, Arley, Highley, The Engine House, Hampton Loade and Bridgnorth, including up to 12 traction engines at Kidderminster.

Back for 2026, traction engines will be steaming into Kidderminster Station, showcasing the power and spectacle of these magnificent machines. From elegant showman’s engines with their decorative canopies to hardworking road haulage engines, this gathering celebrates the golden age of steam on the road.

Watch as these giants come to life on the road-run up the hill outside the station to hear the unmistakable chuff, offering a fascinating glimpse into a bygone era. Once during the day, a road run will take place from the station, down Comberton Hill, along the ring road and back up Comberton Hill to the station. This will take place at 3pm approx (subject to operational availability).

Over at Bridgnorth station, vintage bus rides return for the second year in a row and you can travel in style to Eardington station in a vintage bus. Trains will also be stopping at Eardington giving you the chance to ride two types of transport.

Due to increased risk of lineside fires, all trains will be hauled by one of our Heritage Diesel fleet until further notice. 

At Bewdley on Saturday 8 August, see Warwickshire on display, a 1926-built Manning-Wardle steam locomotive. The engine is 100 years old this year, and was one of the first locomotives to arrive on the Severn Valley Railway. It has been hidden for many years as it is being refurbished including manufacturing a new boiler. The work is substantially complete and you can enjoy guided tour to inspect the work being undertaken and see first-hand the old boiler and various components that are no longer fit for purpose. Tours will be available between 12noon and 4pm from Bewdley Yard. 

On Saturday 8 August, a Dakota will be flying past, at the Bridgnorth end of the line towards Highley.

Alongside the vehicles, there’s so much to see, do and discover on a day out at the Severn Valley Railway, including FREE ENTRY to The Engine House Visitor Centre (open 10.45am – 4.30pm, last entry 4pm). Alight at Highley Station and then its just a short walk to The Engine House where you can get close to some very special locomotives, including ‘Gordon’ the blue engine, and take a peek through the windows of King George VI’s royal carriage. There’s an outdoor play area, café, gift shop and plenty to keep everyone occupied.
