No 80079 is the youngest locomotive on display at The Engine House but despite this it does have an interesting and, in one sense, infamous history. Built in the early 1950’s as one of British Railways ‘standard class’ locomotives these class 4 tank engines were capable of a range of duties and had quite a turn of speed if required.

80079 has been away from SVR metals recently, being on display at the National Railway Museum at Shildon in the northeast for over two years.

On its way back to The Engine House No 80079 made a guest appearance at the Warley National Model Railway Exhibition at the National Exhibition Centre in December 2006.
