76017 for Autumn Steam Gala!

76017 for Autumn Steam Gala!

We're thrilled to announce the visit of BR Standard No. 76017 to our Autumn Steam Gala!

Running from September 19th-22nd, the Mogul will join fellow Standard 4 No. 75069 and Ivatt 4 No. 43106. A British Railways Standard 4 2-6-0, the design of No. 76017 was based on the 'Flying Pigs'.

A first time visitor to the Severn Valley Railway from our friends at The Watercress Line, No. 76017 was completed in June 1953 at Horwich and was allocated to the Southern Region, based at Eastleigh Shed.

Its claim to fame came in 23rd September 1954, while working the 7:00am Banbury to Eastleigh goods; the driver lost control, and No. 76017 ran through the catch point and down the embankment. No-one was hurt and the engine was rescued by the Eastleigh and Fratton cranes, this being reported at the time in the Hampshire Chronicle.

No. 76017 is the first Standard 4 Mogul to visit us since 1998, and will give us three 4s at the event!
