We turn the clocks back to the 1940s with this light-hearted journey back to wartime Britain - don't forget to dress up!

With a fantastic selection of daytime attractions up and down the line, get dressed up and join in with the celebrations with costumed re-enactors on our stations and in our trains helping to tell the wartime story! The return of the Battle, Big Band Show and a whole host of other much-loved attractions will keep you entertained.

Your tickets permit 'Freedom of the Line' travel, so you can visit each station and their attractions and gain entry to The Engine House Visitor Centre on the day of your choice.

Attractions include:

  • Winston Churchill, Monty & King George VI in attendance
  • Musical entertainment up and down the line
  • Costumed re-enactors - beware of the Spivs!
  • Intensive service of evacuation trains
  • Battle of Britain Memorial Flypast on July 7th with a Lancaster over Bridgnorth Station (subject to availability).


  • Live music throughout the day with Kalamazoo Band.
  • See a wartime tank; Buick M18 Hellcat 807 XXU. Stationed at Kidderminster on the Forecourt over the weekend of the 29th and 30th June, the tank will make regular trips down Station Hill to stretch its legs and give visitors an exhilarating glimpse of the vehicle in action. 
  • Visit our Hairdresser to get your 'Victory Rolls' spruced up
  • Free vintage bus rides and vintage vehicle displays
  • Wave the evacuees off as they head into the countryside.
  • Exhilarating firefighting reenactment each day, and a display of firefighting vehicles, courtesy of NFS & AFS Vehicles Group
  • Visit the 1940s Rest Centre to tie in with D-Day 75 and the Shop at Kidderminster - ration books at the ready!

  • Spend time in the fascinating Museum of Railway Memorabilia and learn ‘hands-on’ how to operate traditional signals

  • Our resident singer Kevin Mack, the ‘1940s Crooner’, will be transporting you back to the 1940s with his repertoire of catchy and nostalgic numbers as the trains steam by.

Highley & The Engine House
  • The Battle returns: it's two days after the Normandy Invasion, and a German Troop train is about to be ambushed by Allied Paratroopers and members of the French Resistance…rest assured this will be an explosive encounter that you won’t want to miss.
  • Display and demonstrations of the equipment carried by foot-soldiers in WWII by the Royal Warwickshire Reenactment Group
  • Vintage Marketplace in The Engine House with vintage civilian clothing, vintage uniforms, homewares and vintage prints
  • Display of military vehicles and the Allied’s Encampment next to the station.
  • Live entertainment with the amazing Hattie Bee, singing morale boosting numbers

  • CAMRA award-winning pub right on the platform and full of atmosphere.  A great range of beers including Bathams, Hobsons and Bewdley Brewery, with some great ciders and lagers too. It's a great place to meet, and the bar serves a range of pub snacks
  • Exhibition about RAF Bridgnorth, which was uniquely granted Freedom of Entry to Bridgnorth in 1950

  • Enter the station through the sandbagged portals, being ready to show your ID card, and take 'selfies' in our ARP shelter

Big Band Shows - June 29th & July 6th

A big favourite for many, the evenings are sure to get you singing along and getting those feet tapping during our party on the platform! Join the Kalamazoo Band as they perform a selection of patriotic flag waving numbers which you know you can't resist...

The night is sure to go out with a air-raid is looming!

Real ale will be served in the King & Castle, with hot food available from the Refreshment Room. Seating is limited for the Big Band Show.
The show begins at 7.30pm. These shows are ticketed events. You will need to purchase wristbands if you wish to attend (daytime travel tickets not valid).

Entry to our Stations during the event is only permitted with a valid Step Back to the 1940s rover ticket. For those without tickets, entry to Kidderminster Station will be available for £4 per person. 

For this event, the usual 1st class supplements are not in use and all passengers can occupy any First class seats.

Annual Family Pass: NOT VALID, Children: 4 - 15 years, Family: 2 adults + 2, 3 or 4 children, Seniors: 60+.
To qualify for 'pre-book & save' prices these tickets must be purchased at least five working days in advance of your visit. Tickets may also be purchased at the same price by calling 01562 757900 (option 1). These tickets include FREE admission to The Engine House, our Visitor Centre at Highley.

All pre-booked tickets are subject to a £1.75 booking fee.
Through tickets to Bridgnorth from National Rail will need to be upgraded at our Booking Offices on payment of the surcharge.
The following passes are NOT VALID during the event: Heritage Railway Passes, Staff Passes from BR, LT, Network Rail and Train Operating Companies such as Virgin Trains and Chiltern Railways, SVR Free ticket vouchers for Adult, Child or Family tickets or any discount schemes normally in operation.

Working Members of other heritage railways in our Reciprocal Travel Scheme pay the SVR member fare. 

There are NO DISCOUNTS available to passengers who dress up for the event, or to reenactors who have not applied in advance.

Other information
The Evening 1940s Big Band Show takes place at Kidderminster on June 29th & July 6th at 7.30pm; a separate charge applies, and tickets (wristbands) for this show MUST be purchased if you wish to attend, whether you have a daytime travel ticket or not. Admission to Kidderminster Station and the Evening Shows will not be permitted without a wristband after 7.00pm. A travel-only ticket for the Band Show train from Bridgnorth on the Saturday evenings is available in addition to the Show wristband for anyone who does NOT have a daytime travel ticket, but would like to travel from Bridgnorth for the show. The train departs from Bridgnorth at 6.35pm. These tickets are available from Bridgnorth Booking Office on the day (not available in advance). Please note, this train is only available to passengers with a Band Show wristband.
